'emergency pill'

The emergency pill (also known as the 'morning after pill' or 'postcoital pill') is a hormone preparation which is used after unprotected intercourse or after the failure of another contraceptive method (e.g. burst condom).

The fact is that there has been an increase in unwanted pregnancies among young women, and even young girls, but we cannot allow unrestricted abortion to be put forward as a solution to this problem, because the fact is that the ultimate objective of this own-initiative report is to introduce unrestricted abortion and the morning-after pill into the legislation of the Member States of the European Union and the candidate countries as an effective means of combating unwanted pregnancy.

I think it isn't the best way, to prevent a pregnancy.
But maybe you're in awkward situation, e.g. the condom ripped and you don't know if you're pregnant, the emergency pill is the last way to stop it. You've got not much time, because the risk of a pregnancy raises day after day.
Within 24h the chance to be pregnant falls of 5%.
