What do pregnant teenagers face with?

Here are some problems and fears which pregnant teenagers employ:

-Fear of the parents

-Fear of being abandoned by the father of the child, being alone with the child

-Existential fears about money, education and care of the child

-Doubts about the usefulness of a marriage to the child's father

-Doubt about whether an abortion is appropriate

-Doubt whether an adoption release makes sense

-Fear of decisions against the expectations of parents, teachers or other caregivers

-Fear of change of the situation by the child

-Fear of lack of freedom and independence

-Fear of responsibility

p. 23

On page 23 Sam describes the differences of the areas where he and Alicia live before he goes to this party with his mum.("Everything about her place was different from ours.") I think you can already see here, that Alicia and Sam have different expectations about the life and the future. For example page 24 : "I wanted to live on my own, like one of the skaters..., and he had no girlfriend living there." Sam shows on this page, that he want liberty.

p84

Sam is standing at the window with his son against his chest and he´s jiggling. His questions to himself could be:
What have i done with my life?
I always wanted to go to the college to study art&design, get many qualifications and a better job than my parents. And what is now? I´m a dad with 16 years.
What about my parents? I wanted them to be proud of me but now they aren´t.
What is with mine and Alicia´s relationship? I know she isn´t the love of my life.
Will I be lucky and honest in the future?

p.81-p.99

I think that this part of the book is a really weird one because you don't really know if this is true or just a dream or anything else. I think that this is very important to Sam because now he knows what will come up to him if Alicia is pregnant. Also you can feel that Sam is confused in this situation. It's like you would be him and you don't know what to do. So what do you think about it?

Welcome to the family ! p. 65

"Welcome to the family," said Rich(the little brother from Alicia).
"Don´t say it like that," said Alicia. " I´ll never see him again."
"They´re not that bad," I said, but they were, really.
And to be honest it wasn´t just Alicia´s parents who were getting on my nerves, either.
When I left the house that afternoon, I wondered whether I´d ever go back.

I´m wondering, who has said, I´ll never see him again.
Because it could be Rich, but Alicia could it be, too.
That´s my question - What do you think about it ???
That´s a really weird situation, I think.
Sam fells very uncomfortable.
Please, comment on it !

Crazy Sam

I think Sam is a bit crazy, because he talks to a poster of his idol. Maybe it's good for him, becauase no other person listens to his problems, but talking to a poster is really strange. I've got a poster of Johnny Depp in my room and he's hot xD but i don't talk to him.. I think sam should talk to real people, so his problems could get solved..

Tony Hawk

Sam is in our book the central figure. He is an insane skateboarder. When he has time, he skates with his friends Rabbit and Rubbish. His biggest idol is Tony Hawk. He has a big poster from him. But also he speak to him.

Here is something about Tony Hawk: http://www.tonyhawk.com/
Check it out!!

the Author

that`s Nick Hornby :)

I can really say he knows how to write a book for teenagers. I lik what I read until now and I hope the book will stay interesting until the end :)

p.70/71

I want to discuss about 'What is a mum?'.
Nicki said, she'd like to have a baby, if she's young. She wants to be a mate to her child.

Sam wanted to say: 'That's what it's like. Clubbing, clubbing, clubbing. If you can't go clubbing with your mum, then what use is she?'
I think Sam is hurt, because his mum isn't the one he need.
Maybe he needs someone, who cares more about what he is doing. Maybe he feels lonely.

I understand the way of thinking of Sam. I think a mum should be more as a mate.
Certainly it's good, if parents have a deep relationship to their children!
But you shouldn't share everything with them.
That's what I think about it..

..You should consider what are you doing. Because it's not only your life, if you get pregnant..

page 28/29

I'd like to show you a short conversation between Sam an Alicia.
I stood up.
Alicia: Where are you going?
Sam: I think I'm wasting your time, and I'm sorry.
Alicia: You're OK. Sit down again.
Sam: You can pretend there's no one else here, if you want. You can sit on your own and think.
Alicia: And what are you going to do? Who are you going to talk to?
Sam: My mum.
Alicia: Aaaah. Sweet.
I snapped.
Sam: Listen. You're gorgeous. But the trouble is, you know it, and you think you can treat people like dirt because of it. Well, I'm sorry, but I'm really not that desperate.
I don't like it, how Sam and Alicia talk together. Alicia is very arrogant and Sam hasn't got the control about himself.
After reading until chapter four, I think Sam is embarrassed about his family´s circumstance. He often tells about it in a very bad context. As an example: On page 40 he is telling about Alica's parents (both are graduates) and a few rows later he is writing that" if she(Alica) found out that none of us-my parents, grandparents, great-grandparents,nobody-had ever been to college, then she might not have wanted to spend any time with me" (p.40 l.21-24). And there is also the funny part with his friend rabid.
I would like to post the funniest parts of the book so far and show how stupid Sam's friend Rabbit is:
"Yo, Sam."
"Did I tell you that my name is Sam?Well, now you know."
"All right? How is it going man?"
"OK"
"Right.Hey sam. I know what I was gonna ask you. You know your mum?"
"Yes, i told him. I knew my mum."
"Is she going out with someone?"....
I couldn't believe what i was hearing. Rabbit wanted to go out wirh my mum!....

p 43/44

At the pages 43/44 tells Sam that Alicia wants to sleep with him. He thinks that Alicia just want to have sex with him to piss her exboyfriend of or to make him jealous. First I thought that too because I thought Alicia is a kind of girl who doesn´t take it very serious with who they sleep. But now I think different because if she just wanted to sleep with Sam to show her ex that she isn´t a virgin anymore, they weren´t going out for this long time. Also my opinion of Alicia changed now I think she´s all right! :)

p. 21

I want to share the conversation between sam and his mum.
Mum: 'As far as I can tell, she's someone every boy likes.'
Sam: 'You mean she's a slag?'
Mum: 'Sam!'
Sam: 'Sorry but that's what it sounds like.'
Mum: 'That's exactly what I didn't say. I was careful. I said every boy likes her. I didn't say she likes every boy. So you see the difference?'
I think it's an important situation and it makes clear how people think about other people.

Slam

When I read the first sides of our book Slam, there arises me the question, why Alicia wants to sleep with Sam immediately. Although she dumped her friend, one of the first things she would do, is to sleep with Sam. But then she told Sam, that she only break up the relationship, because her friend wanted to go in the bed together. It is a little bit curious!!!
Can somebody explain it to me?

p.62/63

When I have read these both sides, I found it weird, that the parents of Alicia think, that Sam is silly. Why they think this?
And why does he make nothing against it? Nevertheless, he already knows something, so he can shows some of his knowledge and make himself not even worse !
